The tabloids will have to find another couple to speculate over; Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have at last tied the knot after a two year engagement and years of media speculation about their partnership.
Reuters reports that the ceremony took place in France over the weekend, with the couple's six children all involved in the ceremony, be it as ringbearers, flower girls, or in the case of eldest sons Maddox and Pax, walking Angelina down the aisle.
It is no surprise that the ceremony took place in secret as the family are known for valuing their privacy, which is another reason they have remained so tight-lipped on the subject of marriage. The couple once stated that they hoped to marry only when same-sex marriage was legal in the United States, but have clearly made the decision to marry now, which may attract criticism from LGBTQ activists. According to reports they were married in accordance with Californian state law by a judge who travelled to France for the ceremony.
The couple first announced their engagement in 2012, seven years after they met whilst filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith together. They will next work together in 'By the Sea', a drama written and directed by Jolie, which Pitt will co-produce. This is Jolie's third marriage, after relationships with Jonny Lee Miller (1996-99) and Billy Bob Thornton (2000-2003) and Pitt's second after his union with Jennifer Aniston (2000-2005).
Close pal of the couple George Clooney, who is about to tie the knot himself, couldn't contain his excitement at the news. "How great is that?" He told People. "I'm really happy for Brad and Angie and their whole family."
Similarly Jolie's father, Jon Voight, also sent well wishes to the couple. "It seems like it was a beautiful, simple ceremony with all the kids involved," he said. "Must have been a lot of fun. I am very happy for them."
